Work Philosophy in a Coffee Shop
Introduction
I wrote half the chapters of my first book in coffee shops. Not because I lacked an office, but because coffee shops have a magical atmosphere — neither lonely nor distracting.
Why Coffee Shops Suit Work
Research shows that moderate ambient noise (about 70 decibels) best stimulates creative thinking. The background sounds of a coffee shop — espresso machine steam, low conversations, clinking cups — fall right in this range.
More important is "social suggestion". People working around you make you unconsciously enter a working state too. This is why many prefer libraries over home.
My Coffee Shop Work Checklist
- Choose a corner seat, back to the flow
- One Americano + one glass of water
- Turn off phone notifications
- Use Pomodoro: 25 min work + 5 min looking out the window
- Move to a new place after hitting a milestone
Work is not about location, but state. Coffee shops help me switch states.
